T.G.I.F. : Thank God it's Funny (Friday)

It's Friday once again! And because I've skipped a few Fridays there, I'm doing another post on text mishaps and autocorrect fails.

Some are kinda mean, funny, some are, well, just wrong. Enjoy!

It's One of Those Days Again

I was hanging out with some friends last night and once again, I was the 5th wheel.

Sometimes, being the 5th wheel sucks. Big time.

Don't get me wrong, I had a great time. But as I finished my glass of wine, I clearly saw that I was utterly single. I pleaded to God to act quickly and introduce me to my husband already. My heart was racing as I panicked while my heart sank with the reality that I (might) have not met him yet.

If you've read my posts from the beginning, you might think that I'm 100% put together when it comes to these things, but I'm only human. Sometimes, I get sad and lonely too.

I did say in my earlier posts that this blog is everything about being single, both highs and lows. As positive as my previous posts on the single season are, just like you, I go through the lows too. One of the reasons why I started this blog was also because during moments like this, I needed reminding myself.

There are mostly good and great days, but there are these days that just makes me wonder, "Will he ever come?", "Will I ever get married?" or "Will God really answer my prayer?"

Truth is, I could never give a definite answer to these questions, only God can. I surrender to this thought each time.

This verse is the secret to waiting gracefully. Sometimes we tend to forget but when I rely on God to give me the strength, He always instantly comes through as if rescuing me from my worries. Waiting gracefully is not about us or our season of waiting, it's about what God can do with our lives as we wait. Reminding myself once again now, I feel a little less lonely and if you're single like me, I hope it helps you too.

T.G.I.F : Thank God it's Funny (Friday)

You might have cursed or heard someone curse an iPhone. Not because it has glitches, but it's those darn autocorrects that are more annoying than helpful (but you don't switch it off since you'll need them for spell checks). This can be especially irritating when you're typing non-English words than turn "yeaaahhh" to "uranium" and "Disney" to "divorce".

This is exactly why I never bought an iPhone.

So since it's funny Friday again, here are a few screen shots of failed texts thanks to iPhone's autocorrect.

iLove

I love lasagna,
I love milk tea,
I love shopping,
and I love to travel.

All these things I say I love so I must really love them.

Come to think of it, we say the word "love" a lot, oftentimes exchanging it with the word "like" or "enjoy".

Love isn't overrated, the word is just misused - a lot of times.

So what does love really mean?

I've probably answered dozens of slam books when I was in grade school and each slam book that I've come across would always have the questions "Define Love". And I remember not knowing what to answer so I would just write whatever the popular answer that time was.

During fifth grade, I asked my Chinese teacher to answer my slam book and when I saw what her answer was under "Define Love", she wrote, "1 Corinthians 13 : 1-13". I had no idea what that meant.

Until recently.

One of the things I've been praying for (second to my husband) is for God to prepare my heart for marriage. Many times we forget that love is of utmost importance for a marriage to succeed (it's not all about compatibility). But since people tend think love is overrated or simply because it's just so hard to do, we give in to our relational issues and create smudges in our relationships that started with a clean slate, a promise to always love each other.

Love isn't just being being a giver, it's giving all you can. Love isn't just about forgiving, it's forgiving and forgetting. You just don't say "I love you", you show it.

Love is demonstrated in the small and big things, for better or for worse, for richer or poorer, until you breathe your last.

So next time you say you love someone, do him/her a favor;
Say it with all your heart and show it with all your might.

What's In Your Checklist?

My planner week of March 5-10, 2012

My weekly planner consists of daily checklists of the things I need to do. Whether they are small or large tasks, I write everything down. Call me semi-obsessive compulsive but I like seeing the bigger picture when it comes to my weekly activities. I use my highlighter to cross out the tasks I've done and I get this contented feeling when I see my white-paged planner turn neon pink at the end of each week.

I can imagine getting deeper sense of contentment when I finally cross out all the qualities and characteristics I look for in a man and realize he's the one. Okay, edit that. I'd probably be head over heels, overwhelmingly and ecstatically happy and grounded at the same time when that happens - but of course, I'll do my best not to show it so much and over react.

Do you have a checklist of the qualities you look for in a man? Do they stand the test of time, in good times or bad, for richer or poorer? Is he the kind of man you'd want your son to be?

Whether you have a long checklist or a short one, the important part is that you stick to it. If you are praying for a husband, all the more you should review your checklist to see if the guy you're dating is God's answer to your prayer. If not, then maybe he's not the one.

Character checklists are meant to be crossed out, otherwise, you'll miss a lot of important details. Surely even the least obsessive compulsive people wouldn't mind seeing their checklists full of colorful neon highlights, coz you and I both know that only means one thing :)

That Dreaded Question

Whether I'm with friends who I just saw last month or relatives / family friends I saw a year ago, they never fail to ask these questions:

Friend (nonchalantly) : "So...what's new with you? " - This question almost always translates to "Who are you dating now?"

My thought bubble when I'm asked this staple question is "Seriously? Haven't we just seen each other, like, four weeks ago? If you know me at all, you'd know my dating patterns and..wait, you're really asking me that question, really, again??"

Aunt / Family Friend : "Where's your boyfriend?" / "When's it your turn to walk down the aisle?"

I get this a lot when we get together with relatives or family friends. I guess it's easy for them to conclude that I should be settling down soon because all my brothers are married with kids so they probably thought I'll be next...or maybe they just can't think of anything else to ask me. It's one or the other. I don't mean to sound conceited but I think there's more to me than having a boyfriend or being engaged.

If I were a celebrity, I'd probably say "No comment" but since I'm not, a giggle followed by "I'm still waiting" would suffice. I then instantly excuse myself and run off to talk to someone else or change the topic - something totally unrelated like the traffic outside or how bad the weather is.

Don't get me wrong, I love these people and I never resent them when they ask, but it's just so ridiculously funny I had to point it out. I'm sure you've had a handful of this type of question as well.

I guess my only advice would be to smile and answer politely, until Mr. Right is already there to answer those pesky questions with you.

T.G.I.F. : Thank God it's Funny (Friday)

Okay, okay, I know I said my posts will either be about the single season, food, travel or shopping, so what's with the comedy?

Well, our busy lives (that's why posts on food only come on weekends) need a few doses of comedy, don't you think?

That's why every Friday, I'll be posting some photos that will make you laugh (if you have the same humor as I do).

Today's theme is FUNNY BUT TRUE. Enjoy!
