It's One of Those Days Again

I was hanging out with some friends last night and once again, I was the 5th wheel.

Sometimes, being the 5th wheel sucks. Big time.

Don't get me wrong, I had a great time. But as I finished my glass of wine, I clearly saw that I was utterly single. I pleaded to God to act quickly and introduce me to my husband already. My heart was racing as I panicked while my heart sank with the reality that I (might) have not met him yet.

If you've read my posts from the beginning, you might think that I'm 100% put together when it comes to these things, but I'm only human. Sometimes, I get sad and lonely too.

I did say in my earlier posts that this blog is everything about being single, both highs and lows. As positive as my previous posts on the single season are, just like you, I go through the lows too. One of the reasons why I started this blog was also because during moments like this, I needed reminding myself.

There are mostly good and great days, but there are these days that just makes me wonder, "Will he ever come?", "Will I ever get married?" or "Will God really answer my prayer?"

Truth is, I could never give a definite answer to these questions, only God can. I surrender to this thought each time.

This verse is the secret to waiting gracefully. Sometimes we tend to forget but when I rely on God to give me the strength, He always instantly comes through as if rescuing me from my worries. Waiting gracefully is not about us or our season of waiting, it's about what God can do with our lives as we wait. Reminding myself once again now, I feel a little less lonely and if you're single like me, I hope it helps you too.

iLove

I love lasagna,
I love milk tea,
I love shopping,
and I love to travel.

All these things I say I love so I must really love them.

Come to think of it, we say the word "love" a lot, oftentimes exchanging it with the word "like" or "enjoy".

Love isn't overrated, the word is just misused - a lot of times.

So what does love really mean?

I've probably answered dozens of slam books when I was in grade school and each slam book that I've come across would always have the questions "Define Love". And I remember not knowing what to answer so I would just write whatever the popular answer that time was.

During fifth grade, I asked my Chinese teacher to answer my slam book and when I saw what her answer was under "Define Love", she wrote, "1 Corinthians 13 : 1-13". I had no idea what that meant.

Until recently.

One of the things I've been praying for (second to my husband) is for God to prepare my heart for marriage. Many times we forget that love is of utmost importance for a marriage to succeed (it's not all about compatibility). But since people tend think love is overrated or simply because it's just so hard to do, we give in to our relational issues and create smudges in our relationships that started with a clean slate, a promise to always love each other.

Love isn't just being being a giver, it's giving all you can. Love isn't just about forgiving, it's forgiving and forgetting. You just don't say "I love you", you show it.

Love is demonstrated in the small and big things, for better or for worse, for richer or poorer, until you breathe your last.

So next time you say you love someone, do him/her a favor;
Say it with all your heart and show it with all your might.

Good (Better) Read #2 : The Rules of a Gentleman

Okay, I know I said in my previous post that brotips deserve a slow clap for their wise and witty advices, but I've come across another site that deserves a slow clap - with a standing ovation.

The Rules of a Gentleman is a compilation of advices for real men (notice how they use the word "men", not guys or boys) in a classy and sincerely truthful presentation. There are hundreds of posts on how to treat a lady, here are my favorites:

Searching for Mr. Right?

Has your search for Mr. Right turned into a season of Amazing Race where you're never Team #1? Have you kissed all the frogs in the swamp but none of them has transformed into Prince Charming?

Yes, the search for our Mr. Right, our one true love seems to be an endlessly tiring ordeal. You've probably done all you could think of only to end up right where you started. You may have tried hanging out with people you have nothing in common with just because the guy you like is in their group or do favors for your crush even if it takes up your time and money just so you have an excuse to call him unnecessarily. So much effort for nothing - or worse, a broken heart.

Call me conservative, but I never believed that women should do the searching (in the sense that women aggressively make the first move and end up chasing after a guy they like) - it's just not in our nature to do so. On the other hand, chasing and hunting is ingrained in every man's nature. As it was in the stone age, so it is up to this day. Real* men live for the adventure that is "the hunt" or "the chase", whether it's courting a girl or vying for a promotion so he can better provide for his family. When real* men obtain what they are chasing for, especially when it's a wife, they are bound to treat her like a precious gem, a rare pink diamond - one of a kind and of the highest value. She meets her Mr. Right effortlessly and keeps her dignity intact at the same time.

You're probably wondering, what am I to do now, sit down until Prince Charming comes on his white horse to sweep me off my feet? Not really. I'm thinking more along the lines of just keep on doing what you need to do and one of these days, at the time you least expect it, you'll finally meet him.

So don't worry, he will find you. He's probably searching for you right at this very moment.

* Real - I'm only talking about men who are secure about themselves and who value women they right way, what I wrote in this post is not applicable to all men.
